Spoken Word & Movement Performance Workshop

Rocking Chair was a spoken-word performance workshop exploring the integration of poetry, choreography, and movement as tools for translating written work from the page to the stage.

 

The project explored how physical storytelling can expand the narrative possibilities of spoken word performance and how rhythm, silence, gesture, and spatial dynamics can be extensions of the poem itself.

At the center of the piece is a true story following a young woman growing up in a household affected by domestic violence. The work approaches the subject through movement and language to convey experiences that are often difficult to articulate through words alone.

 

Rocking Chair was developed and presented as part of the LA Unbound Choreography Showcase in Los Angeles, California.
